The Joshua High School Policy Debate teams delivered outstanding performances at the UIL State Tournament, held this past weekend in Austin! Competing as the top qualifiers from District 8-5A, both JHS teams advanced to the elimination rounds on day two.

Folu Olajide and Jacob Wright achieved a remarkable third-place finish at the State level, while Jacob Pena and Thandeka Kabo earned Octofinalist medals.

Additionally, Folu was honored with the Silver Gavel Award, honoring the second-place speaker in the 5A division.

Throughout the tournament, students debated the resolution: "Resolved: The United States Federal Government should significantly strengthen its protection of intellectual property rights in copyrights, trademarks, and patents."

Competitors were required to argue both affirmative and negative positions, showcasing their research, critical thinking, adaptability and excellent speaking skills.

These talented and hardworking students have demonstrated their skill, perseverance, and commitment to excellence.

Congratulations to all on their outstanding achievements!
