At their February 17 regular meeting, the Joshua ISD Board of Trustees recognized many members of the JISD family.
The Board recognized Joshua High School student Julia Pena for being named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program. She achieved this feat by placing in the top one percent of scores in the 2023 Pre-SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
The Board recognized JHS Theater students who traveled to Grapevine to compete at the Texas Thespian Festival where they competed in Musical Duets, Solo Musical, Duet Acting and Monologue Acting. The students received Superior scores and qualified for Nationals. The students recognized were: Jayden Tryon, Redding Herr, Ava Miller, Morgan Ansley and Jewell Bullard.
The Board recognized three JHS Spirit of Joshua students who made the TMEA 5-A All-State Band. They participated in the TMEA Clinic/Convention in San Antonio. The audition process comprises 70,000 students with only around 1,875 selected to perform in 18 All-State ensembles. The students who were awarded this great honor are Joey Buhl, Shane Waits, and Stetson Turnbeaugh.
The Board recognized the Sweethearts Dance Team for the awards they received at the Showtime International dance competition in January. The team was awarded the top honors in the following categories: Best in Category Team Jazz, Best in Category Team Pom, Best in Category Team Novelty, Supreme Routine Team Novelty, 1st Place Elite Team Routine, Team Sweepstakes, Judges Award-High Score, Contest Grand Champions.
Division One Solos were earned by: Brenlee Burns, Kalla Jenkins, Lyla Thomas, Dresdin May, Izzy Courtright and Taylyn Blaylock.
